Gas Supply Pipe Installed Without a Protective Sleeve
The gas supply pipe to a newly built house appeared to pass directly through the external cavity wall without a suitable continuous sleeve. Mortar had also been applied directly around and onto the copper pipe. Limitations and application
A visual inspection of the external penetration cannot confirm the pipe’s concealed route, whether a sleeve is present deeper within the wall, or the pipe’s internal condition. Requirements vary according to the pipe material, wall construction and approved installation detail. Verification and any remedial work must be undertaken by a Gas Safe registered engineer in accordance with the applicable gas-safety requirements, manufacturer’s instructions and project specification. The installation should not be commissioned until it has been inspected and successfully tested.
